This was my last camp with students in Norway. On the mission funds drive night, Åse Linn paid to have my nails painted red. Oh boy, I had much fun!!!. I had bible teaching to do and a seminar for seekers dubbed, "Jesus for the dummies" I am glad I was at this camp.

This was a night filled with Kenyan dishes, drama and lots of dancing. We had so much fun. I particularly enjoyed playing my role as the Kenyan Preacher in the drama we did. Every time I watch the video from that night, I cannot help but smile and laugh a lot.

What Next after Norway?

It is amazing how fast time flies. I cannot just believe 6 months are done already since I came to Oslo. Today I am actually packing in preparation to leave Oslo for Mandal on Monday April 19, 2010. I will therefore be at Hald International Centre for the coming 2 months before I return back home to Kenya.

I have been reflecting, praying and thinking about my next step after this exchange programme in Norway and I am happy to inform you that I have accepted an invitation extended to me by the my local church in Nairobi to join the pastoral team. I will therefore join Christ Covenenant Church of Africa as Associate Pastor (Youths, Missions and Leadership Development) beginning July 1, 2010. I will also be leading Global Compassion & Prayer Network, a christian organization I founded last year. Through this network, I hope to mobilize individuals, churches and institutions to engage, reflect, think and pray for local and global missions. I also hope to reach out to church leaders in rural areas of Kenya, inspiring and equipping them to build transformation-minded churches. Hopefully we can make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children especially orphans, unemployed youths and poor families living in rural Kenya.

I need your prayers as I continue to engage the next step. I will furnish you with much details later.

Ministry Happenings for March & April 2010

I am delighted in the Lord to once again share with you in summary what I have been up to for the last one and half month. This is also my last update from Oslo because I will be leaving for Hald International Centre on April 19, 2010.

My life and ministry in Oslo has been so much fun. I have had more to do than I had anticipated when I was coming from Kenya. The month of March was particularly engaging with the an event in every of the four weekends. First I attended Leader Group training weekend for 7 young student leaders and had a wonderful time sharing my life story and teaching leadership lessons from the book of Nehemiah. Then the leader group visited me the weekend that followed for a time of food, prayers and fun. On Wednesday 17th of March we held a very succesful Kenyan Night at the CU in Oslo with lots of Kenyan dishes, drama and dancing. It was so much fun to see the international students dance with us.

Between March 19 - 23 I was involved in an International Student Ministry Conference in Warsaw, Poland. The theme of the conference was "Strangers or Angels?" and God reminded all the participants at the conference how much He loves and cares for the international students and challenged us to take more interest in ministering to them. Then I spent the following weekend (March 25-31) at Lillehammer at the Easter Student Camp where I facilitated together with 2 other leaders a seminar we called, "Jesus for the dummies" targeting seeker students. I was also involved in the logistics planning team and was one of the three main bible teachers, speaking about, "The fruit of our christian freedom." I am so glad that the Lord could use me the way He did.

But then I needed to rest so I spent the Easter Holiday indoors in Oslo, reflecting, praying, sleeping and watching movies. I have not had major activities after the last camp except attending parties and normal meetings. And today (April 17) I am packing because my time in Oslo is much spent and time has come to go back to Hald and finish up the program. I am happy and blessed. I thank God for the opportunity to live and minister among students in Oslo. I have been impacted and changed forever.

Ministry Happenings for January & February 2010 (Summary)

I spent the New Year's eve at Mesnali Camp in Lillehammer in a youth camp. Had so much fun, skiing, games and preaching. Then I travelled to Hald for infield course which was very refreshing. I lost my cousin Jan 2 and that was not so good news but God saw me through with the help of staff and my Kenyan teammates. The weeks that followed I spent working with students in Oslo International Christian Union, having speeches, coffee meetings, dinners etc. It was a successful month of ministry.

But February was very busy. I spent the first week in Kristiansand at the "Talk about Faith" conference with Rebecca Monley Pippet, the writer of the book, "Out of the Saltshaker" Then the next weekend I was out with the new Laget Student Board teaching leadership lessons from the book of Nehemiah and sharing my testimony. This went excellently. CU weekend followed on Feb 19 - 21, and I was teaching bible lessons from John 15 and 1 Timothy 4 on "Effective Christian Living" then went skiing with friends at the Normadskapellet. I enjoyed this weekend so much. And last weekend, Feb 27-28, I was out again with the Lagshuset Crew in the woods for another camp. This was more relaxed for me, just going skiing, playing games, eating and having deep conversations with my housemates. I am so glad that ministry has really picked up for me in Oslo. Continue to pray for more strength and wisdom on how to engage the ministry here! And thank you for your support this far. I am happy & blessed.

I had so much fun being at this weekend. I was the main speaker and the theme was "Effective Christian Living" I am so glad that God uses me in ways I have never imagined before. We also had very deep and rich discussions about how to be fruitful christians.

I am so excited at the mention of Oslo because I will live there for the next 6 months. The city is lovel, so built and beautiful. I hope to visit Vigeland park again..the sculptures tell it all.

Memories of my 26th Birthday Celebrations

August 27, 2009 was a very special day in my life. I turned 26 and my team mates at Hald (Ruth, Kalisha and Mesh)organized a washing party for me. And my goal for my new year is to love God more; His people more and His world more. I desire to increase in Knowledge and grow in wisdom...and grow more closer to my family and friends especially my special friend.

Hald in Summary

Hald International Centre is more than just a school. It has been home for me, an environment of peace, love and unity. The structures, the people, the food, the programs have meant so much to me over the last 4 weeks. Except for the fact that I have to go to Oslo for my practise, Hald is just a superb place to live in...and I will really miss the other students when we all travel end of this week.

Reflections of my missionary journey to Norway

August 18, 2009 is the day I boarded a plane to a land I have never been to, the land of the midnight sun. I was happy for many reasons but especially because this is my first trip outside Kenya and I would be away for 10 months serving students in Oslo city, Norway.

The preparations for the day had been a bit depressing especially with the delay in getting the visa and the change of my travel days. I was not sure what I would expect and so as the plane took off that wonderful Tuesday morning, I thought of myself like the Israelites leaving Egypt for Canaan. Even though they knew where they were going, but they did not know what it would look like and how they would be in their new environment. My focus had to be fully on Christ who had given me the opportunity to serve abroad.

I have read about the missionary experiences of people like Hudson Taylor, the Cambridge Seven, and even George Verwer...I couldn't help think of myself like one of the old missionaries leaving their countries to serve in a different cultural set up.

My heart glorified the Lord for such great chnace to minister His love in a new country and yet questions of how possible my mission would be kept lingering in my mind. I felt quite small and inadquate, and this was because I really don't have tangible experience of cross - cultural missions.

The trainings by my sending organization (FOCUS Kenya) had done much to prepare me for the realities I was about to be confronted with but my mind and heart had not fully comprehended that whole information. I was in my own world: excited and yet scared.

Well, I have been in Norway now 10 days and looking back, I am so grateful for the whole journey I have had from the time I was invited to come to Norway to this point in time. I have learnt that God will call anyone He chooses to and that He gives grace to whomever He calls. I am so happy and blessed because of what I have experienced thus far....to God be the glory.
